Barclay Beales is a renowned business and is respected across the UK for quality and is a clear leader with many main dealers across the UK, when it comes to painting commercial vehicles.

Based in Mileham, on the outskirts, of King’s Lynn, the business has been built on supporting the local body builder market within the area. Major investment over the years, has seen the business expand rapidly now with five commercial paint booths and a highly skilled gang of painters, it’s not hard to see why this business in an industry leader.

In 1976 Barclay, as a young entrepreneur, opened up the repair shop single after working as an electrician at the local Ford main dealership. Whilst operating solo he built a strong relationship with local business, Fruehauf, working on some speciality projects. As the relationship developed with Fruehauf, they invested more in Barclay’s business until he became a 25 man strong team working 24 hours a day and painting 50 flatbed trailers per week.

In 2005 the business needed to diversify to maintain the workforce and skill levels as the local market took a turn for the worse and the company needed protecting. Today the business is embedded not only within the local economy but also with a wider and more sustainable client base.

Barclay who is a long term, loyal NEXA AUTOCOLOR® user is also a member of the FLEETWATCH® network. The business has always carried one major principle and that is to deliver quality with a fast turnaround time, knowing that time is money to the industry and more importantly the customer.

Over the years, the business has trained and developed many apprentices and their in house training coupled with the training support of FleetWatch has produced a number of quality painters that the industry ordinarily struggles to unearth.

It is the apprenticeships that give me the confidence that we can continue to provide quality workmanship time and again. The market place just doesn’t have the skilled personnel available, but working with my team we provide the necessary training and then ultimately benefit from the standards reproduced,” states Barclay.

Having reinvented the business back in 2005, the future is always set for one of change and development. Barclay continues to invest in the business and with his son, Gareth presently grinding out his skills on the shop floor, in time he will be the one to pick up the reins and move the business on to a new level in the years to come.
