REPAIRER SPOTLIGHT: FLEETWATCH® Member Spectrum Vehicle Repairs celebrate 30 years of development

Introducing the NEW FleetWatch Repairer Spotlight feature; in each feature we will gain an insight to the world of our repairer businesses. In this edition we take a look at the business of FleetWatch member Spectrum Vehicle Repairs who are celebrating over 30 years of business.

In 1986 Spectrum VR was born as a small accident repair facility in West Thurrock, not knowing then the magnificent rise and position within the CV and car repair market that we see today.

20 years into its life the Managing Director, Marc Watts, took the bold step to move to purpose built premises and invest in the state of the art equipment to bring the business to a level where they could be recognised as a major contender in the industry.

Speaking with Business Development Manager, Rohan Sharp, he said, “It has always been Spectrum’s objective to maintain and improve our service levels which would in turn lead onto additional premises. We firmly believe a static establishment with no investment or growth strategy would eventually be left behind in an ever changing and challenging market place”.

The business expanded to a second site 6 years ago, located in Sidcup, which has proven to be another best in practice paint and bodyshop with the help of Spectrum paint partner PPG. Managing the business under the same ethos as at West Thurrock has led to equal recognition within the industry.

This move also coincided with the implementing of PAS125 (BSI10125) accreditation across both sites in order to stay ahead of current and future customer requirements, which has proven to be beneficial.

Spectrum were the first bodyshop in the UK to obtain this Kitemark in a mixed car and commercial environment, whilst not taking the easier route of isolating the commercial aspect of their operation.

Rohan then added, “We have found this a very useful accreditation to have when developing both new business and to ensure an efficient & cost effective system is in place for future staff and site development”

Working with PPG and implementing the Pinetree management tools of Bodyshop Advance and also ActiveWeb, Spectrum have realised operational benefits as well as a higher quality customer experience.

Spectrum work closely with many blue chip companies and work providers but strive to ensure that they have a reliable and profitable work stream, which enables the business to invest and become a sustainable partner for their clients. Being a member of FleetWatch helps Spectrum to provide clients with bespoke specifications on paint and livery as well as implementing the FleetWatch warranty programme for added security.

In 2016 Spectrum are already seeing an increase in confidence within the market and remain convinced that the hard work undertaken by the company during difficult trading periods over recent years has helped them maintain a leading edge in the industry.

So as 2016 continues on a positive note for Spectrum VR and Spectrum RX, as respected FleetWatch members we raise a glass in their 30 year celebrations.
